Bermagui History
Game fishing in Australia began in Bermagui. It was after the first marlin was caught off Bermagui in 1933, that game fishing became a major part of the Bermagui scene. Anglers came from north, south and overseas to try their luck. By 1936, it was so popular that it was decided that rules and regulations were needed and BBGAC was founded. The club has been operating ever since with a short inactive break during WW2. Today, Tag and Release fishing dominates over capture, enabling preservation of stock and providing data for research into these migratory species.
